A project presentation for the 23rd State Level Children’s Science Congress 2015 was conducted by the Environment Society of India at Karuna Sadan, Sector 11, Chandigarh. ENVIS Centre, Chandigarh was invited as one of the “Evaluators” for the event.

A total of 49 teams drawn from different Schools of Chandigarh both Government and Private (Junior and Senior) gave presentation on different sub themes on topics such as:

·         “F.E.W- Impacts weather and climate”

·         “Weather & Climate –Impact of rainfall”

·         “Impact of human activities on weather & climate”

·         “Hidden Hunger –A cause of early puberty in adolescent Indian population”

·         “Dengue  in to climate”

·         “Weather changes and allergies”

·         “Weather changes and bronchitis”

·         “Weather and climate changes”

·         “Climate change and dengue”

·         “Understanding weather and climate”

·         “To study the effect of increasing population on weather and climate”

·         “Analysis of waste generation and its disposal”

and others were presented before the Selection Committee consisting of Dr. Taranjit Kaur, from Panjab University Chandigarh, Dr. Reena Chadha, from Tourism Deptt. Punjab. And Mr. Abhishek Sraw from ENVIS Centre, Chandigarh. Each team was comprised of 5 child scientists and a guide teacher. For each presentation 5 minutes were allowed followed by 2 minutes for question/answers.

The winning teams were Government Model Sr. Secondary School, Sector 22-A, on the topic “Substitute of sand to save rivers, disappear from eco-system”, Government Model Sr. Sec. School Sector 18-B, Chandigarh on the topic “Assessing the usage of plastic bags in Chandigarh” and Delhi Public School Sector 40-C, Chandigarh “Comparison of different types of fertilizers in crop growth”, in Senior group and in Junior Group Shishu Niketan Sector 22-D, on the topic “Impact of human activities on whether and climate : Comfort v/s Climate”, Government Model Sr. Secondary School, Sector 22-A, “Recycling of waste, CFLs to avoid increased Air Pollution” and Camel Convent High School Sector 9-B, Chandigarh, “Carbon foot print calculator”.


The selected teams would attend the 23rd National Children Science Congress 2015 to be held at Chandigarh University, Gharaun, Distt SAS Nagar from 27th-31st, Dec., 2015 and 103rd Indian Science Congress, Rashtriya Kishor Vaigynik Sammelan, to be held at Mysore from 3rd Jan., 2014 to 7th Jan. 2015.
