SUBJECT : Environmental Days 

 ENVIS CENTRE, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Chandigarh and NGO “Youth Innovative Society”, has celebrated the World Earth Day on 22nd April of 2016. The programme consists of the lectures from the eminent lecturers of the city based school on environmental awareness, sansitization lecture by ENVIS Centre Chandigrah on the environmental issues and familiarizing school teachers, students and ECO Clubs of the city about the working of ENVIS Centre and the environmental data available with it. The Greening Action Plan 2016 for Chandigarh has also been released on the along with the inaugural of a new website named, “Flora of Chandigarh”.

·         The event was organised in the seminar hall of Sh. Moti Lal Arya Model School, Sector 27.ENVIS CENTRE, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Chandigarh and NGO “Youth Innovative Society”, has celebrated the World Earth Day on 22nd April of 2016. ·         The event was organised in the seminar hall of Sh. Moti Lal Arya Model School, Sector 27.




 ·        It was attended by large number students from city based school, nearly 134 eco-clubs established under different schools and their respective eco-club incharge.



·        The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Santosh Kumar (IFS), Director Environment & CCF, Chandigarh and Mr. P.J.S. Dadhwal, Additional director, Environment & Coordinator, ENVIS, Chandigarh. The chief guest of the event was Mr. Parimal Rai (IAS), Advisor to Administrator (Chandigarh Administration).



·        The celebration stated with the inspirational lectures from the eminent teachers from different schools of the city and a demonstrative session cum lecture by the ENVIS Centre, Chandigarh about the working of centre and how our governments & people from different work/fields can utilize the information available with us for environmental wellbeing and the protection of mother earth .



·        Thereafter, the “Greening Action Plan of Chandigarh – 2016”, was released by the worthy Chief Guest of the event. The action plan is composed of the details about the current status and the future plans of the city for the forest protection and promoting afforestation in/around the city.

·        A new website namely, “Flora of Chandigarh”, has also been inaugurated on the occasion which is very unique of its kind; as its an effort to collect and collate all floral species of Chandigarh and the details of their nature, flowering/blooming season and living conditions. One can find out the name of any unknown plant of Chandigarh just by clicking on the website and following very simple steps.   



·        The celebration was ended with the distribution of motivational prizes to the environmentally best performing ECO-Clubs of the city for adopting organic plant culture; maintaining beautiful plant nurseries and proving free of cost plants to the kids and residents of the city.  




·        The complete programme has been covered up by the local media and a brief report on the event was published in the newspapers of the region to aware people about the environmental activities and provoke them to work for the nobel cause of protecting “Mother Earth”.
