SUBJECT : Environmental Days 

 Paudhmela: On the Launch of Van Mahotsava-2016, the ‘Paudhmela’ was   inaugurated by the Chief Guest – Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator. On this occation spalling were distributed to local residents of Chandigarh. After inauguration of Paudh Mela, the Chief Guest went to Nagar Van Udhyan Yojana Site behind Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh, where he launched the ‘Ceremonial Plantation-2016’ at the site and planted ‘Plumeria’ sapling . It was attended by more than 200 school students, representatives from NGOs and Resident Welfare Associations. 


Eco-Club Day : To observe Van Mahotsav-2016 in a befitting manner by involving various Greening agencies like NGOs, Resident Welfare Associations, Eco-Clubs besides Government agencies, Centre with Department of Forest & Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration celebrated  ‘Eco Club Day’ on 11th July, 2016, during which various schools planted saplings within their school premises. The ceremonial function was held at Govt. Model Sr.Sec. School, Sector 37-B, in which Sh. Santosh Kumar, IFS,  Chief Conservator of Forests & Director Environment & Science & Technology, UT Chandigarh was the Chief Guest. On this occasion, Chief Guest inaugurated  50 kWp Grid tied Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant at Government Model Sr. Sec. School, Sec. 37-B, UT Chandigarh. A plantation drive organised by the centre with more than 200 students of schools.



NGO Day: NGO day celebrated with youth innovative society (regd ) at cl aggarwal dav public school sector-07 chandigarh. To observe Van Mahotsav-2016 in a befitting manner City-based NGO Youth Innovative Society (Regd )in collaboration with UT organized a tree plantation drive with Birendra Choudhary IFS Deputy Conservator of Forests of the city as a chief guest planting saplings on NGO Day  . The overall objective of celebrating the ‘NGO Day’ is to sensitize the masses especially school children to generate awareness for protection and conservation of flora & fauna and to increase the green cover of the Chandigarh. On this occasion, Shri Birendra Choudhary, IFS exhorted the students to take active part in plantation in open areas and should make Chandigarh city more clean & green.



Plantation Drive By Hon’ble Governor: To observe Van Mahotsav-2016 in a befitting manner by involving various Greening agencies like NGOs, Resident Welfare Associations, Eco-Clubs besides Government agencies, Centre and Department of Forest & Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration celebrated ‘Van Mahotsava’ on 14th July, 2016 at Govt. Home Science College, Sector 10-D, Chandigarh in which His Excellency, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Haryana & the Administrator, UT Chandigarh was the Chief Guest.

On this occasion, Chief Guest planted a sapling of ‘Lakshmi Taru’ in the College Campus.  Other Officers, Principal of the College and NGO Members also planted a sapling.

After planting a sapling, Chief Guest inaugurated  90 kWp Grid tied Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant at Government Home Science College, Sector 10-D,  Chandigarh.

After that, Chief Guest presented the ‘Peace Award’ to distinguished teachers and Heads of Schools for their contribution to promote the age-old Indian ethos of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ among the budding generation, which was instituted by NGO – Yuvsatta.



Resident Welfare Association (RWA) Day: ENVIS Centre andDepartment of Forests & Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration celebrated ‘Resident Welfare Association (RWA) Day’ as a part of ‘Vanmahotsav-2016’  on 18th July, 2016. the ceremonial function was arranged at Community Centre, Sector 35, Chandigarh in association with Federation of Sectors Welfare Association Chandigarh (FOSWAC).    Mr. Birendra Choudhary, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests & Deputy Chief Wildlife Warden, UT Chandigarh was the Chief Guest.  On this occasion,  Chief Guest planted a saplings of ‘Hibiscus’ in community centre  campus and exhorted the residents to get part in greening programme to make Chandigarh more clean and green. Centre and FOSWAC members also planted the saplings.



Herbal Day: Herbal day was celebrated on 20th July, 2016 during this ceremonial function was held At Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 47-D, in which Sh. Ajit Balaji, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, UT, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest. On this occasion, Sh. Santosh Kumar, IFS, CCF and Sh. Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, UT, Chandigarh Jointly inaugurated 50 kWp Rooftop Solar Power Plant at school. After inaugurating the solar plant, Sh. Santosh Kumar, IFS planted the sapling of “Safed Musli’ and Sh. Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS Planted the sapling of ‘Insulin’ at school premises and also distributed herbal plants among school children, teachers and staff.
