SUBJECT :Education 

 On the occasion of Energy Conservation Day, a quiz and slogan-writing competition was organised for students of Maharishi Dayanand Adarsh Vidyalaya, Sector 22-A. Students of different classes participated in the contest. The aim of the event was to make students aware about the conservation of energy for future.

NSS camp

A special seven-day NSS camp was inaugurated at Government Senior Secondary School, Mani Majra Town, by DEO Vinay R Sood. The DEO spoke on the need for discipline and cleanliness. Principal Manita and senior programme officer NSS Sapna Sood thanked the DEO for sharing valuable knowledge with the children. Programme officer NSS Jai Bhagwan also spoke on cleanliness.

Sports day

Shri Kulwant Rai Sarvhitkari Vidya Mandir, Sector 43-B, celebrated its annual sports day with great zest and gusto. The meet began on a grand note as the flag was hoisted by chief guest Anil Kumar Aggarwal, chairperson Gian Chand Aggarwal and principal Kamaldeep Singh Sandhu. Jagmohan Grag declared the meet open by lighting a lamp. The event took off with a fruit race. A number of race such as hoop, umberlla, ring, balloon, skipping, scorpio, matka, brick and slow cycling races were held.

Awareness session

An awareness session on traffic rules was conducted during the first day of an NSS Camp at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19-C. The session was taken up by chief coordinator Gurnam Singh, along with Naveen Kumar and Paramjot Singh from the Chandigarh Traffic Police. The session was attended by 100 students who were sensitised about various traffic rules to avoid accidents. NSS volunteers were made aware about rash driving, its consequences and benefits of wearing helmets.

Christmas celebrated

Mount Carmel School, Sector 47-B, Chandigarh, hosted a Christmas school concert on its premises. Students from various schools of the city came together and sang carols. The event revived the spirit of Christmas. A beautifully decorated Christmas tree adorned the stage. Students were thrilled with the presence of Santa Claus. Father Thomas asked students to spread the message of peace and joy.

Pizza party

Jainendra Public School, Sector 1, Panchkula, organised a pizza party for tiny tots. They were taken to a leading pizza chain’s pantry to show the process of pizza making. They enjoyed their favourite flavour and were given certificates for the visit.

Athletics meet

St Stephen’s School, Togan, Mohali, held its annual athletics meet with lots of fun, excitement and a spirit of competition. The day started with a march past by students. Later, the students participated in different track races, including the much coveted inter-house 4 X 200m baton relay for senior girls and boys. The school staff also participated in recreational races. The theme for the event was “reconciliation and togetherness”. The chief guest for the occasion was NK Sharma, MLA, Dera Bassi.


The Saupin’s Community Service Organisation (SCSO), the Mohali chapter of Saupin’s School, Sector 70, donated five patient screens to the PGI. SCSO chairperson Anuradha Saupin and members of the Mohali chapter along with a few students presented the screens. The idea behind the noble act was to make a difference with a kind word and a warm gesture to show compassion to others and bring a smile on their faces.

City student shines in National Science Olympiad

Shreyas Chandgothia of Class 10 at St Kabir Public School, Sector 26, Chandigarh, has topped among all tricity school students, who appeared for the 18th National Science Olympiad (NSO). His state rank is one and international rank is 6.— TNS
