Chandigarh, January 10
A garbage disposal project initiated in 2004 by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) will be implemented in July this year. The project costing Rs 9 crore, will be the first of its kind in the country.

To do away with the unpalatable dustbin sites, a novel concept of garbage bin-free scheme was introduced in 2004. All garbage containers are to be removed and ‘sehaj safai kendras’ set up. Garbage will be collected for onward transmission to a dumping ground. As many as 30 kendras in Sectors 4, 9, 11, 17, 18, 21, 22, 28 and 29 have already been set up.

The garbage from the kendras will be treated in a seven-acre plot.
