MP Kirron Kher inaugurated a Grid tied Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant of 210 kWp at Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, here, today.


Kirron said the Modi-led Central Government had set a target of installing 1 lakh megawatt rooftop solar power plants in the next five years.

She said the Central Government was also planning to develop Chandigarh as one of the smart cities of the country.

A smart city has many goals like education, health infrastructure but definitely renewable energy is one of the key goals of any smart city.

She exhorted the students to join the efforts of the government in making Chandigarh a cleaner, greener and smarter city to live in.

BS Bhalla, Secretary (Science and Technology), said the plant had been implemented by the Chandigarh Renewal Energy, Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST). The total cost of the project was Rs 227.20 lakh, which included the operation and maintenance charges for 10 years. The plant would be able to generate 2.72 lakh units of electricity per year.
