More trouble lies ahead for the Jaypee garbage processing plant at Dadu Majra as the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC) has issued a show-cause notice to the plant for violations.
The committee has given 15 days to the plant management to reply to the notice. It has asked the management to show cause why the plant should not be sealed and legal action initiated against them for the violations.
The notice was served after a team of the CPCC found several irregularities and shortcomings in the functioning of the plant.
The team found that the effluent treatment plant was not working properly and merely water had been filled to show that the plant was operational. The staff were not able to explain the operation of the plant. During the inspection, it was found that solid waste was stored in huge quantities and in an indiscriminate manner. When it rained, the solid waste went into the sewerage without being treated.
Besides, the unit had failed to deposit the water cess. The committee said the air pollution-control devices were not functioning properly and were leaking.
