On the occasion of Van Mahotsava - 2017, Punjab Governor-cum-UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore inaugurated ‘Paudhmela’ in the presence of MP Kirron Kher at a parking place near Sukhna Lake Club here today.

The two-day “Paudhmela” will display three stalls of the Forest Department, Municipal Corporation, Horticulture Wing of the Engineering Department, Chandigarh, at the venue where the Forest Department will distribute saplings free of cost.

A stall of Acacia Eco Club of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16-D, Chandigarh, will distribute herbal plants and Giloy stems among the interested people.

After the inauguration of “Paudhmela”, the Governor launched a ‘plantation drive-2017’ at the IRB Complex, Sarangpur, Chandigarh, and planted a ‘Rudraksha’ sapling. He also inaugurated the 300 kWp grid tied rooftop solar power plant installed on 39 portal cabins at IRB Complex, Sarangpur, here.

Parimal Rai, Adviser to the Administrator; Anurag Agarwal, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Forests; TS Luthra, DGP; and Santosh Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests; were also present on the occasion.

VP Badnore requested the citizens of Chandigarh to take part in this Van Mahotsava with full enthusiasm and make UT a clean and green city.

He said: “If we adopt ‘Each One Plant One” theme, then Chandigarh is going to be a greener place”.
