Tobacco control cell formed

The Chandigarh administration has constituted a Chandigarh Tobacco Control Cell (CTCC) to act as a focal point for all tobacco-related activities and complaints relating to violation of the provisions of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003.
While home-cum-health secretary will be the chairperson of the cell, the other members include inspector general police, deputy commissioner, tourism director, health services director, pubic instructions director, MC commissioner, head of tobacco cessation clinic, PGI, chairperson of the Burning Brain Society (NGO), Kumar Abhimanyu, Jagwinder Patial, Jagdish Singh Sarpal and A.P.S. Shergill.
The cell will coordinate, superintend and direct all tobacco control related activities in the UT on day-to-day basis. It will also monitor and ascertain that the guidelines mandated for Chandigarh as “Tobacco-Free City” are observed.
