Chandigarh, July 27
The health department has sought the consent to empanel international experts as honorary advisers to the Chandigarh administration in its smoke-free initiation.
This is aimed at understanding successful global trends and practices and replicating these according to the domestic condition of the city.
These experts, who are well versed in the subject, will be consulted as and when any query is raised by any citizen about smoking and its harmful effects.
Soon, the administration will host its website on smoke-free city wherein information regarding the Act, its provisions, rules and Chandigarh tobacco control cell, etc will be posted.
All head of departments of the UT have also been instructed on behalf of the secretary health not to accept any sponsorship or funding from any corporate or individual engaged in tobacco trade or commerce in any form.
