Chandigarh, January 28
UT ADMINISTRATION has decided that permits will be granted to only LPG/CNG/Battery driven auto rickshaws. Permits of diesel/petrol driven auto rickshaws will not be renewed and no new permit will be given to diesel/petrol run auto rickshaws. The Chandigarh Administration has also simplified the process of granting Private Service Vehicle (PSV) permits to operators, by delegating the powers to grant PSV Permit to Secretary, State Transport Authority (STA), Vandana Disodia. At a meeting of STA chaired by UT Home Secretary-cumChairman, STA, Ram Niwas. It was also decided to grant 21 more All India Tourist Permits for AC Buses while 25 permits have already been granted to AC-bus operators. In the meeting, the status of auto rickshaws carrying more than five children was examined and directions were given to the officials to impound vehicles, found violating the rules more than three times. Niwas stressed upon to impound these vehicles only after dropping the children at their destination. As regards, Contract Carriage Permits for buses, it was decided that 34 applications being short listed by the Office of Secretary , STA, will be examined by the Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh on the basis of residence proofs submitted by them.
