To enforce the ban on polythene bags, a drive was conducted in Sectors 35, 42, 43, 44 and the apni mandi in Sector 46 here today. During the course of the checking, 80 kg polythene material was seized from shops in sector markets and the apni mandi. The drive was conducted under the orders of the Deputy Commissioner by the enforcement staff led by Prerna Puri, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (South), and Ashok Kumar, Assistant Commissioner (under training) and nodal officer for polythene ban enforcement.

The administration has imposed a ban on the use and sale of polythene bags in the city with effect from October 2, 2008. Such drives will be carried out on a regular basis to enforce the ban.
